Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has liked a social media post linking him with a move to AC Milan. Nunez, who has struggled to secure regular game time under new manager Arne Slot, has been linked with a potential move to the Italian giants during the January window.
The Uruguayan forward joins the Reds in 2022 following his £85m move from Benfica. However, he has not lived up to the lofty expectations and currently sits behind Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in the Slot order.
AC Milan TMN earlier reported that the club had opened talks with Liverpool over a half-season loan deal, which would include an obligation to buy in the summer for £37.4m. That speculation is sure to gain further traction after Nunez liked an Instagram story featuring him in a Milan shirt.
Although Milan remains closely linked to Darwin Nunez, a contrary report from the Mail Simon Jones says Liverpool have not received any contact from the Italian club about a potential transfer.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot himself has expressed confidence in the striker’s ability to impact games.
“For me it has an impact. If you just look at the goals, he hasn’t got the number of goals he wants to score, or we want a number nine to score, but he has an impact on his work rate. He’s part of a team that scores a lot of goals and wins a lot,” he said (via BBC)
Liverpool are in good form and are currently at the top of the Premier League table. They maintain a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who have played a game more than the Reds.
The Liverpool legend shares his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure
While Nunes has been linked with a move, many reports suggest that Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold could be heading to Real Madrid next summer. The full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, allowing him to open negotiations with other clubs this month.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, in a post on social media platform X, stressed that the club and its players must remain focused on winning the Premier League, where they currently hold a commanding lead.
“The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is to win the #PremierLeague. Nobody should stand in the way of the contract or the future! I love Trent as a lad and as a player but his club would tell Real Madrid to bid And I also knew LFC would throw it up,” he tweeted.
The Reds are preparing for a tough run of games this month, starting with a crucial clash with Manchester United at Anfield on January 5. They will then travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on January 8.
