Washington goaltender Charlie Lindgren took a hit to the head and left the Capitals’ home game against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.

In the first minute of the second period, Lindgren took a hit to the side of the head from Montreal’s Nick Suzuki, who took Brandon Duhaime into the goalie.

Lindgren lay on the ice for a few seconds and the game was stopped. He stood up again and appeared to be trying to stretch his neck. Play resumed, but Lindgren was pulled about two minutes later, with Logan Thompson taking over at the crease.

The Capitals later confirmed that Lindgren would not return to the game due to an upper-body injury.

Before leaving, Lindgren stopped all nine shots he faced and the Capitals took a 1-0 lead. Montreal came back to beat Washington 3-2 in overtime.

With Washington playing again Saturday on the road against the Nashville Predators, it’s possible the Capitals will make a roster move to add a goaltender if Lindgren isn’t fully ready.
